This week our theme is frogs. We used various activities to try and reinforce numbers as well.
We made frog puppets using brown lunch bags. The kids colored their bags green and then they put the glue on the bag and attached the legs, eyes and tongue. Once they dried we had a little puppet show.
We also used construction paper lily pads, toys frogs and play doh. The kids made their frogs eat bugs and jump around the lily pads.
We hopped around the room like frogs and sang 5 Little Speckled Frogs and used our felt board frogs while we sang.
I made two sets of frogs one with numbers 1-10 and one with corresponding dots on their bellies for the children to match up.
We talked about the frog life cycle. I cut out pictures of the life cycle and everyone colored them in and then we worked together to make a life cycle chart showing how they change. We also watched a very short youtube video on my kindle showing the metamorphosis.
I made a frog out of a shoe box with bugs numbered 1-10 (with the corresponding dots on their wings) and we tried to put them in order and feed the frog. I also made them in different sizes so we could put them in order from largest to smallest and smallest to largest and feed the frog.
We put toy frogs in 4 sand boxes and let the children play in the sand.
I printed a frog match up game off the internet with various pictures of frogs for the children to match up like a puzzle.
We used paper plates and painted them green then I cut out two circles and a semi circle, we talked about the shapes and the children glued them on our paper plates to make frogs.
I had a frog and lily pad mat for matching up numbers and dots.
The children really loved playing with the puppets so we colored frogs with markers and glued them on popsicle sticks and had another puppet show.
We used water color paints and painted our plates whatever color we wanted our frogs to be and then glued ball eyes on them and tongues.
It was a very fun week.
