This week our theme is camping.
So far this week, we made a tent using our table and a blanket. Later in the week we looked at "stars" using our tent and a turtle that projects the stars.
We painted using sticks. At first the kids didn't like it; they wanted paint brushes but then they started having fun with it.
We used "binoculars" made from tape and toilet paper rolls to look for birds outside. We also used our "telescope" made from a toilet paper role with tape at one end with holes punched out to simulate stars when looking towards the light.
We went on a nature walk in the backyard and collected anything small we could find to use for our art project. The kids and I collected things like leaves, twigs, rocks, grass, acorns, pine needles and so on. Then the kids glued them to their paper.
We alternated playing with the water table and sand table. We had lizards, snakes and frogs in the sand table and fish and frogs in the water table. We also talked about different items and how they sink or swim. I tried to find little creatures they might actually come across if they went camping.
The children painted with marshmallows by using them to stamp paint onto their paper. Because, let's face it, you can't go camping without marshmallows.
The kids used star stickers and placed them on black construction paper create the night sky, what it would look like if they were camping outside.
Our letter of the week is I, the number is 6 and our shape is a hexagon. We made the capital I using popsicle sticks and completed an I worksheet where we traced the lower and upper case I and identified the letter in various words. We completed worksheets for our number and shape as well.
We also welcomed two new friends to our group. It was a very busy and fun week!
